Welcome to the Segantini Atelier in Maloja
Step into the world of Giovanni Segantini — painter of light, visionary of the Alps. Nestled in the heart of the Engadine, the Segantini Atelier is the original studio space designed by the artist himself in 1897. Located just steps from his former home in Maloja, this small rotunda invites you into the intimate creative universe of one of Switzerland’s most celebrated painters. Here, surrounded by the alpine landscape that so deeply inspired him, you’ll discover exhibitions, rare archival materials, and stories from the Segantini family that bring the artist’s legacy to life. Visit us to explore a space where history, art, and light converge.
Now on view:
Segantini’s Pavilion of Light
Step into a world of Alpine radiance at the Segantini Atelier.
Our current exhibition, “Segantini’s Pavilion of Light,” invites you to explore Giovanni Segantini’s deep fascination with the sky, light, and the luminous spirit of the mountains.
Presented as part of the regional project Light and Shadow in the Engadine, this immersive show brings together original works by Giovanni, Gottardo, and Mario Segantini, highlighting the creative dialogue between three generations of artists.
Rare archival photographs taken by Giovanni himself, paired with new contemporary images by German photographer Gabriele Heidecker, illuminate the lasting power of light in the Segantini family’s vision.
At the center of the rotunda, a glowing Murano glass chandelier, designed by Gottardo Segantini, bathes the space in warmth — blending with the natural light that pours in from above.
This is more than an exhibition — it’s an experience of light, legacy, and Alpine beauty.
We invite you to bask in it.
